Class D Dry Powder Fire ExtinguishersClass D fires involve combustible metals, such as magnesium, titanium, potassium and sodium as well as pyrophoric organometallic reagents such as alkyllithiums, Grignards and diethylzinc. These materials burn at high temperatures and will react violently with water, air, and/or other chemicals. There are two types of Class D fire extinguisher depending upon the metals being worked with. Lithium and lithium alloy metals require graphite based extingusihers (Lith-X) while sodium based extingushers (Met-L-X) are more suited for magnesium, potasstium, uranium, and powder aluminum.
